Flintlock pommel pistol, officer, attributed to Gavacciolo, Brescia.
Italy, circa 1680
Steel, bronze, wood.
Total L.: 50 - Barrel L.: 34.2cm - Cal.: 14mm


Bronze, round, four-register barrel; grooved, smooth, chased ring, round with flat on top. The muzzle is beaded with a beaded ring. Straight brass handlebars. Signed on the thunder-side top with the letters G.F.D.
Round-bodied bronze turntable, chased with foliage with a reserve for the signature G.F.D. Swan-necked dog with reinforcement, flat-bodied, engraved with foliage scrolls. Brass basin, brass basin cover chased with a shell and lined with iron; chased spring.
Brass counterplate, carved in relief with flowers and foliage, openwork.
Brass fittings, chased and engraved en suite. Openwork trigger tail. Long-tail pommel engraved en suite, with raised cap nail engraved with flowers.
Walnut frame with long barrel, carved on two registers with foliage and flowers.
Wooden ramrod with brass tip. 
Crack marks on the butt and stock, old and stabilized.
