Object description :

"Bronze By Roger Godchaux - Lioness Turning - Lost Wax - Susse Frères Casting"
This is an icon of animal bronzes, the lioness turning by Roger Godchaux. I present to you this very beautiful bronze proof with a dark patina. Lost wax edition casting, signed on the terrace by Roger Godchaux, marked in hollow Susse Frères éditeurs in Paris with the stamp and noted lost wax. The lioness walks and turns her head to the left. We are immediately caught by her gaze and her gait so well represented by the artist. 13.5x25.5cm Bibliography: Jean Dunand, Xavier Eeckhout, Sophie Fourny-Dargère, Roger Godchaux: the complete work, Dijon, Faton edition, 2021, model listed under n°F25, p. 90. Roger Godchaux was a student of Jules Adler and then of Jean-Léon Gérôme. In 1925, the Jury of the Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts awarded him the silver medal. When he died in 1958 at the age of 80, he had spent more than fifty years of his life representing the animal in all the attitudes observed in everyday life.
