Set of handwritten letters on 68 pages from Mr. Jean-Marie DUHAMEL (member of the Academy of Sciences) to Mrs. Cécile PEREIRE, wife of Charles RHONE (portrait of her by Winterhalter, second daughter of Isaac PEREIRE), relating with many descriptions his trip to the East (Egypt, Palestine, the Sublime Gate, the Danube, etc.) and anecdotes (visit to the Great Pyramid by Mariette's team, anecdotes of the Holy Sepulchre, etc.) on the year 1863. DUHAMEL's nephew having also been an Egyptologist.
