"Marian Procession Staff From Trapani - 18th Century"
Our silver-plated brass staff comes to us from Sicily. It is a remarkable piece. In a rich rocaille setting nestles the Cross engraved with the initials PMDV, for "Pro Mariae Devotione Vera", meaning "For true devotion to Mary".
At the top sits the crowned Virgin resting on a base decorated with three coral flowers from Trapani, which coral was symbolically considered the blood of the Savior. Dimensions: 70 cm high by 16 cm wide. Good condition
