Object description :

"Provencal Bread Box In Solid Walnut, Early 19th Century "
Provencal « panetière » or bread box  in solid walnut early 19th

This beautiful  « panetière » is an undisputed masterpiece. It is the result of the work of passionate cabinetmakers. It was dedicated to the conservation of bread.

This piece of furniture whose shapes are specific and original is richly decorated with floral representations, leaves, wheat ears, fruit clusters, mouldings, motifs.

Its three facades consisting of a succession of spindles in turned wood align to form an openwork grid to let pass the air circulation for a good conservation of the bread. Its bottom is clear-way.

Its feet end in the shape of a snail.

The front has a carved door with a finely chiseled scrap metal entrance. It is well-crafted. The key is in working condition. The set perfectly matches and gives a coherent look to the furniture.

The high and low sleepers are very wide in the center then become thin at the ends. They are carved with garlands of flowers, leaves and different patterns.

This  « panetière » was suspended from the wall to keep bread out of the hands of rodents.

This furniture charms us by its elegance, its lived, its beautiful patina aged by time, its robustness, by the function assigned to it.

The  « panetière » is made from quality materials and built using old techniques : studs and mortises weld the wood pieces together and strengthen the strength.
