Alphonse Lanoë, from a family of Breton millers, was born in Malestroit on May 29, 1926. A member of the Resistance during the Second World War, he moved to Paris in 1946. Suffering from tuberculosis, he went to the Davos sanatorium for treatment. He met his future wife, Margrit Jungi, and remained in Switzerland where he earned his living as a decorator. An independent artist, he exhibited his works mainly at the Zurich art gallery Kunstsalon Wolfsberg.
He died in Dietlikon, in the canton of Zurich, on May 23, 2009.
