"Ferdinand David (1860-1944), "lot Valley At Penne d'Agenais" Oil On Canvas "
This magnificent oil on canvas depicts a sunny landscape of the Lot Valley, a panoramic view with the village of Penne d'Agenais (Lot et Garonne) and its church Notre Dame de Peyragude in the background; it is signed lower right Ferdinand David (1860-1944), countersigned and located on the back. The painter was able to capture the beauty of the landscape, the brightness, the contrasts between the greenery, the trees, the wild flower beds, treated with an impressionist touch and a big blue sky dotted with small clouds. Ferdinand David (1860-1944) is a painter from Agen, he was a student of Cabanel, but it is Harpignies who will influence his technique, his works and his life too; thus, he left Paris and returned to Lot et Garonne to paint these luminous landscapes proposed in small formats. He exhibited in Paris at the Salon des artistes français of which he was a member with honorable mention in 1914. He was curator of the Agen museum; his works are exhibited in most museums in the South-West Oil in very good condition, presented in a contemporary frame
