This Katana blade is very well preserved, without any particular forging defect (see photos). The Koshirae of the 20th century is composed of a Saya and a Tsuka and a Tsuba which is, for its part, from the Edo period.

BLADE CHARACTERISTICS:

Zaimei (with signature): 岩政幹恵作, or "Iwamasa Mikie Saku"
Period: 20th century Nagasa: 70.5cm
Weight of the sword without the Saya: 1000grs
Sori: Height: 1.5cm - Type: Tori-zori
Mekugi-ana: Number: 1
Sugata type: Shinogi-zukuri
Throats: Bo-hi (with throat)
Hamon type: Chu-Suguha straight tempering line and of average width. Very beautiful and very fine tempering line. Very beautiful Jigane and Jihada Kissaki type: O-kissaki (large)
Condition: Very good general condition of the sword. Very beautiful Japanese polishing.
Defects: Some micro-scratches

KOSHIRAE:

Tsuka: Length: 26 cm - Type of braiding: Hineri-maki in natural Japanese brown silk. With a beautiful Same. The knots of the Ito, Omote and Ura are reversed.
Tsuba: Type: Maru-gata (round) - Floral patterns - Material: iron - Ancient period: Edo (18th century). The Tsuba is mounted with 2 copper Seppa (20th century).
Fuchi/Kashira - Period – 20th century wave pattern.
Habaki: Brass
2 Menuki: With dragon patterns – 20th century
Saya: Modern - Color: Metallic black and a brown Japanese cotton Sageo. The Kojiri, Koiguchi and Kurigata are made of buffalo horn.

THE BLACKSMITH:

Mikie Iwamasa (Yanai City, Yamaguchi Prefecture) is one of the modern Japanese blacksmiths who forged this blade. He creates blades that incorporate modern techniques and styles while preserving traditional techniques. Mikie's works are both beautiful and functional, and are highly regarded by many sword enthusiasts and collectors.
