CENZI's proposal for you is:  Sculpture depicting two angels fighting for the heart    A French Artwork entirely hand-carved with hammer and chisel, it bears the signature of Falconet (Etienne-Maurice Falconet 1716-1791)   Probably sculpted by one of his followers in 1800.   PERIOD: 19th century DIMENSIONS: 50cm high • 30cm • 23cm • 10kg   CONDITION: VERY GOOD!  (Small marks and original patina present) Probably restored with visible marks.   Description: A master of 19th century French sculpture, Etienne-Maurice Falconet (1716-1791) created this composition for the Marquise de Pompadour. This masterpiece is an allegorical subject depicting two winged loves fighting over a fallen heart. The two cherubs in movement and full of life are made with finesse... Touching, the two cherubs seem focused on their mission. Their lowered eyes give them a naive air that moves. With a serious face surrounded by soft hair accompanied by curls, they seem determined. The plump and naked bodies recall the joys and innocence of childhood. The graceful wings, a bow, arrows and a garland of flowers perfectly illustrate the artist's theme of love.
