"Panoramic View Of Naples "
This large gouache, painted on engraved lines, represents a panoramic view of Naples taken from the roofs, we can see in the distance the bay where many boats are located as well as Vesuvius in the background. The roof terraces are occupied by a few characters, some dancing the tarantella; the Piazza del Plebiscite, is animated by many passers-by as well as a few horsemen and carriages. Printed and engraved, around 1860 in Milan, by Antonio Vallardi after a drawing by Carlo Bossoli, it is painted in gouache. The Antonio Vallardi house, still in business, is a Milanese publishing house founded in 1750 by Francesco Cesare Vallardi. In the mid-19th century, the publisher published artistic, geographical, scientific and religious works, as well as views of cities, including panoramas of Italian cities such as Milan, Venice, Florence and Naples. Carlo Bossoli was born in Lugano in 1815 and died in Turin in 1884, he is a Swiss painter and lithographer.
