Originally from Grenoble, Gabreil Fournier was inspired by the painting of Lucien Mainssieux, a friend of the family. In 1908 he was at the Ecole Supérieure d'Art in Grenoble, then in 1910 at the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, in 1912 he was at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. He frequented the Montmartre and Montparnasse neighborhoods, notably the artists of the Ecole de Paris. Later he collaborated with Raoul Dufy; frequenting the Rotonde he rubbed shoulders with Odigliani, Soutine and Kisling. Leoplod Zborowski exhibited him with Henri Matisse.
