We also know of a famous cast made by Luigi Valadier around 1780 in Rome for Pierre-Gaspard-Marie Grimod, Count of Orsay (1748-1829) and currently kept in the Vatican Museums (amazone mattei).
Dressed in a loose chiton held at the waist by a kolpos, her left breast bare, this amazon stands, one leg resting against a tree trunk at the foot of which lies her pelta (shield of the Amazons).
She has placed her helmet on the ground and, her face inclined marked by an "absent" look, her arm raised above her head, she seems to be releasing her bow to relieve herself.
Very good state of conservation, magnificent medal patina (glazed brown).
Small traces, uncleaned bronze.
F. Barbedienne, Founder: signed on the terrace, confirming a 19th century cast (while "Barbedienne fondeur, Paris" indicates a cast from the early 20th century).
Numbered in ink under the base 63967
Height: 61cm
