"French Cashmere Shawl With Blue Background Loaded With Palmettes - Lyon Or Nîmes Circa 1850"
Circa 1850 France Beautiful French square cashmere shawl with fields full of long palmettes on a blue background and dating from the end of the Louis-Philippe period or the beginning of the Second French Empire. Probably from a Lyon or Nîmes factory, this shawl is woven finely in wool with a seven-color cut throw, on a Jacquard loom. The very nervous design presents long sinuous palms interlocking in quincunx and diagonally. Dense and provided decoration with four borders of plant stems. Harlequin fringes woven on two sides. Unidentified factory. About ten moth holes without calling into question its stability. Note slight differences in color in the blue background in the weft, due to weaving defects or abrach as can be observed in carpets. Beautiful condition of color and conservation. Dimensions: a square of 189 cm x 184 cm.
