"Napoleon III Rosewood Box, Ivory Marquetry And Gilt Bronze "
A fine example of an "Article de Paris", the name given to this new range of beautiful objects sold in boutiques specializing in these high-end trinkets prized by the emerging bourgeoisie with high purchasing power. This box is therefore one of these "Articles de Paris", the fruit of a work in symbiosis with an excellent cabinetmaker, a craftsman bronzier and all orchestrated by a "Mercier", both coordinator and seller. Its scalloped shape is quite typical for the Second Empire, the top offers a superb checkerboard in ivory and rosewood marquetry with a trompe l'oeil effect, otherwise, the entire box is also in rosewood with multiple bronze inserts. Interior in light silk and in good used condition.
