The quality of manufacture of these objects clearly shows that they were made for a person of high social status.
The branches of each stirrup are made of chiseled iron richly inlaid with silver. They are forged and not cast. They are connected to the rear part of the stirrup by very solid riveting.
The double branches that support the rowel of each spur are decorated with complex re-drilling work and are partly covered with silver leaf and partly inlaid with silver.
The rowels are made of steel, forged and not cast. They are very large, 13 cm in diameter and each made up of a star with more than 40 points. The chilean rowels are the largest in th world. The use of tempered steel ( sometimes from re-used railway rails) allowed the rowels to have a very cristalline sound , as they were used by dancers too, in traditionnals dances like the Cueca.
These pieces are of a size and quality clearly above average, they weigh 1kg600 per pair.
These spurs should interest an amateur of the culture of Chile, and of course any amateur of objects related to horses.
