Adrien Ouvrier (1890-1947) "Place des Remparts de St Tropez" Oil on cardboard signed lower right (painting only: 22 cm x 27 cm) It was a trip to Provence that revealed Adrien Ouvrier to himself. The intense luminosity of the Mediterranean skies, the richness of the colors found there in the most diverse sites brightened his palette. The school vacation months were then spent in Corsica and in the south of France, which he never stopped traveling, his paint box slung over his shoulder and his easel fixed to the luggage rack of his bicycle. He also gleaned colorful notes on sketchbooks or on small canvases. In 1919, still mobilized, Adrien Ouvrier obtained special permission to enter the Prix de Rome for Engraving. The long interruption due to the War did not allow him to win the Prize. Upon his demobilization, he returned to Paris to resume his studies at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts. He attended the Atelier CORMON, the Académie COLAROSSI and classes in Montparnasse, while preparing to become a professor of art drawing. In 1924, he settled in Vienna as a professor of drawing. In 1945, at the request of Jean d'Auvergne, editor of the "Soleil en France" collection, Adrien Ouvrier collaborated as artistic director and illustrator. A member of the Société des Artistes Français, he exhibited every year at the Paris Salon from 1931. On August 17, 1947, Adrien Ouvrier died of a heart attack in Saint-Tropez.
