Large bronze "the cellist" with brown patina signed on the terrace Alfred Boucher and annotated "Hors concours" around 1900, this sculpture with voluptuous and swirling lines rests on a rotating bronze base which allows to appreciate all the movements. Alfred Boucher (1850-1934) is a French sculptor and painter, trained at the School of Fine Arts in Paris, he was second prize of Rome, traveling regularly in Italy, he participated in the Parisian salons, at the Universal Exhibition of 1889. He is regularly awarded prizes for his works and receives a large number of public commissions. He will be the first master of Camille Claudelle... In a concern for transmission and support of the young generation, he founded in 1902 "La Ruche" center of artists' studios installed in one of the pavilions of the Universal Exhibition of 1900. La Ruche was a nursery for many young artists, such as Soutine, Modigliani, Brancusi... And it is still the case!
