Silvered Bronze Face-to-Hand, said to be Charles Quint - 19th Century Made for the Charles Crozatier Competition (1795-1855) Charles Crozatier (1795-1855) was a sculptor, founder, chaser who established a prize in his name to promote his profession through a competition. The winner was awarded a scholarship to complete his training. This finely chiseled, Renaissance-style face-to-hand is decorated with three pairs of antique characters surrounding a beveled mirror. It has two inscriptions: "Crozatier Competition" and "Plus ultra" (Charles Quint's motto meaning "to go beyond the limits of what is feasible"). In the upper part, the battle scene is taken from a cartouche shield made by the goldsmith Eliseus Libaerts, now kept at Skokloster Castle in Sweden. Weight: 330 grs. Beautiful object.....
