"Netsuke - Hana Saka Ji-ji-i - Wood - 19th Century"
Wooden netsuke depicting Hana Saka Ji-ji-i (“the old man who makes dead trees bloom”) sitting on a tree stump. He is depicted using his basket of magic ash allowing him to revive dead trees at a prodigious speed.
We can see in front of him a young tree shoot in full growth, made of mother-of-pearl and stained bone.
A himotoshi under the base circled in stained bone.
Signed under the base Ryumin.
