"Maurice Vagh Weinmann : “the Train”"
Maurice Vagh Weinmann (1906-1990): "Train in a snowy landscape", oil on panel 38 X 46 cm, mounted in a superb Parnassian stepped frame 54 x 61 cm. I confess a certain tenderness for the Vagh Weinmanns because they were the first listed painters who passed through my hands a few years ago... (Memories, memories!). Of Hungarian origin like his older brothers Elemer and Nandor, they settled in the South-West. Even if they have been somewhat forgotten since their deaths, while they were exhibited in the greatest galleries in both Paris and the Provinces, there remains a powerful and colorful work, bubbling with Slavic energy in the service of more French subjects. Maurice is perhaps the most classical of all, despite an expressionist approach, his beautiful profession as a painter nevertheless structures his paintings as in ours with its plunging perspective on a snowy landscape where, in an impeccable "S" composition, a locomotive pulls wagons between buildings under a leaden sky.
