The cup rests on a high striated pedestal.
The body of the plain silver cup is very rounded, in the shape of a truncated egg.
This very round cup shape evokes the cognac or champagne cups that the Puiforcat house still produces.
The cup is hallmarked:
. Minerva 1st title before 1973 for 950/°° silver
. Goldsmith's hallmark: Tfres with a Huguenot for Têtard Frères, active from 1903.
Têtard Frères was founded in 1903 by the takeover of the family business by the sons Henri, Jacques and Jean. The house developed a modern production by embracing the codes of Art Deco in the 1920s. It reached its peak with Jean Têtard, Henri's son, who introduced "new, simple and refined lines in line with the most contemporary arts, and uses requiring more common use: teapots, vegetable dishes, sugar bowls and flatware with modern, elegant, sober, supple, flexible lines, a contemporary plastic of aerodynamic automobiles or cubism, declining convex or concave forms" (H.C. Allgemeines Künstlerlexikon, volume 108, 2020)
This cup with its refined shapes and taut lines, if it cannot be attributed with certainty to Jean Têtard, is in line with the impetus he gave to this great goldsmith's house.
