" Large Display Case Or Bookcase Stamped Befort In Boulle Marquetry Napoleon III Napoleon"
DESCRIPTION: Exceptional large display case or bookcase stamped BEFORT. The model is H 235 x W 120 x D 40 The bronzes represent Socrates and Aspasia, the ode to knowledge. It has 4 stamps of Befort Jeune, two on the back, one on the capital, and one on a crosspiece. At the top, two covered bronze pots on the capital. This is the counterpart model (mainly brass on the doors), therefore the most noble. Very few examples were made. It is a brown tortoiseshell marquetry, traditional at Befort, with its dark honey color and its color imperfections, which make the contrast with the black and brass so pretty. It fully incorporates all the classic codes of the BEFORT house, the crosier spandrels at the corners of the marquetry panels, the half-ingot molds embedded on the facade and sides, the square connecting dice, the butterfly angles on the sides, the large bronze trophy in the center of the sides, the characters from the classic Befort quadracycle (Ceres, Aspasia, Socrates, Bacchus), and many other details relating to the marquetry. It comes from a prestigious auction (2023) with traceability (Collection Comtesse de Salaberry). This is an impressive model that is difficult to photograph to fully appreciate... It has 4 adjustable rack shelves, inlaid with double threads on the edge (not in the photo) DIMENSIONS: H 235 x W 120 x D 40 PERIOD: Napoleon III around 1860 ARTIST: Mathieu Befort known as BEFORT JEUNE AVAILABILITY: immediate PRICE: 12,900 euros
