Adolphe Bachman was born in Switzerland, in Lausanne, around 1880.
Settled in France in the Paris region, in Corbeil then in Clamart, he exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants from 1908 to 1913. On the back of our painting is mentioned in pencil "Indépendants 1909", but it does not seem that this subject, La Moisson, was exhibited there this year - or the following ones.
Adolphe Bachman hit the headlines in 1906, after shooting a violent brother-in-law with two pistol bullets...
