"Augustin Carrera : "evening Wear""
Augustin Carrera (1878-1952): "Evening Wear", oil on canvas 117 X 73 cm unframed, unsigned, annotation A.Carrera and a label bearing the number 51 on the back. After his death, Carrera fell into a long period of totally unjustified oblivion from which he is only just beginning to emerge. Born in Madrid to French parents, he studied in Marseille and Paris and benefited from several scholarships including the Indochina scholarship in 1912 which allowed him to travel to Asia which became a recurring theme in his particularly monumental work. A true Fauve contemporary of Vlaminck, Derain, Valtat, but especially Camoin or Manguin, after the first war where he was mobilized and wounded, his style evolved towards an Art Deco with a rich palette giving pride of place to the support which is a constructive element. A prominent member of the Provençal School, it is time to give him back his rightful place in its history. Our painting, circa 1920, shows us a beautiful Lady from the Roaring Twenties, dressed in a silver lamé dress and wearing a scarf tied at the wrist, well-coiffed and made-up, certainly at a reception… Do not hesitate to ask us for photos or additional information by email or telephone.
