"Miniature Portrait By A. Corsi Lalli"
Miniature portrait of Prince Waldemar Christian of Denmark (1622-1656) painted in gouache on ivory. He is represented very young, in bust, three-quarters, in ceremonial armor; he wears the royal belt and a very fine lace collar. His baby face with melancholy eyes is framed by blond-red hair that he wears to his shoulders, a long fringe emphasizing his gaze. His mouth with full lips is pouting. This very beautiful portrait was made by the talented and renowned Italian A. Corsi Lalli (1849-1937) who certainly saw at the Pitti Palace in Florence the large portrait made by Justus Sustermans (1597-1681) and was inspired by it to make his miniature. Our miniature is in a finely chiseled rectangular bronze frame; a suspension ring is on the reverse; old label partially torn on the back. 7 X 5cm Frame: 11X8.5cm Good condition.
