Box Decorated With An 18th Century Miniature

Round bone box, tortoiseshell interior; it is decorated on the lid with the portrait of a young woman of quality painted in gouache. She is represented seated, in bust and three-quarters. Her face with rosy cheeks, astonished look and shy smile is charming. She wears a voluminous powdered bun studded with a rose. Her dress with a corseted bust decorated with a blue ribbon has a deep neckline edged with white lace and puffed sleeves; the start of the skirt lets us guess a voluminous silk. To complete this elegant outfit she is adorned with a necklace and gold earrings. The miniature is highlighted by a hoop probably in gold. The whole is in good condition; note a small crack on the bone in the thickness of the box. D: 6.5cm H: 1.5cm
