"Francesco Filippini "view Of Venice With The Customs And The Salute Church""
This small panel by our Francesco Filippini demonstrates once again the artist's attachment to the theme of the lagoon so dear to him: indeed, a theme that I would define as "congenial" to his poetic sensitivity and his technical skills made of allusive brushstrokes and touch , more suited to suggesting the atmosphere of the subject than to delineating the contours in a drawing manner. As it is, in fact, in the panel examined here, fresh with a brushstroke and decidedly supported by the great charm of the subject which inspired the best Italian artists of the time. Numerous small-format panels of this subject are known by Filippini: they served as direct "impressions" (according to the expression used by the artist himself), both to then translate them into large canvases which are logically fewer in number.
