VALLEMONT (Abbot of) - Eulogy of Mr Le Clerc, Roman knight, draftsman and ordinary engraver of the king's cabinet: and with the catalogue of his works and reflections on some of the main ones. Paris, Chez Nicolas Caillou and Jean Musier, 1715; in-12, epistle, 223 pp., approval and privilege, full calf binding of the time, spine decorated with 5 ribs, edges painted in red. Very good condition. As a reminder Sébastien Leclerc (1637-1714) was a draftsman, painter, engraver and military engineer from Lorraine. He was born in Metz. He published numerous books on geometry and perspective, as well as on architecture. He was the protégé of Le Brun who advised him to abandon his talents as an engineer to devote himself exclusively to engraving and drawing. This text is one of the very first biographies devoted to Sébastien Leclerc, it was published a year after his death. Ex-libris Arthur de Bizemont.
