"Sailor In His Boat At The Quay, Pastel By Louis Fortuney"
Louis Ernest Fortuné Andrieux is a French painter, fresco artist, engraver, lithographer and pastellist born in 1875. For reasons of homonymy with Louis Andrieux, he takes the pseudonym of Fortuney. Fortuney is inspired by the sea, the lights of Brittany and those of the Mediterranean. He obtains the commission from the State for important canvases intended to decorate the Ministry of the Navy, Fortuney painted many genre scenes representing women in the streets of Paris, as well as seascapes. Our work represents a sailor on his boat at the quay, probably a Mediterranean sponge fisherman holding a diver's helmet and standing near a porthole for observing the seabed. Signed lower left.
