Object description :

"Large Solid Walnut Mortar, Hand Carved, 19th Century Turned Boxwood Pestle"
Probably the mortar of a Herbalist, to prepare fragile dried plants….
Period: 19th century. High hand-carved wooden mortar, with four buttresses, truncated cone, top shape, in a wood so well chosen that, despite its great size, there is not a crack, and that patina is smooth and remarkable.
We are joining a double pestle of turned boxwood, from same period, which has a crack (easy to hide)
23cm x 17.5cm, weight: 1.7kg.
Mortar in excellent condition.
