At the beginning of the First World War, the regiment joined the 6th Army on 2 August 1914, with a strength of 70 officers and 3,200 non-commissioned officers and enlisted men as well as 230 horses, and remained on the Western Front until the armistice of 11 November 1918. On 19 August 1914, the 2nd Battalion managed to advance to the rear of the French forces near Liedersingen. 400 Frenchmen were captured. On 20 August 1914, the 1st Battalion suffered losses near Mörchingen from a French machine gun camouflaged by a Red Cross flag. On 22 August 1914, it reached Maixe again, but remained under fire from the French counterattack in front of Franconville and Fraimbois. On 25 August 1914, the 12th Company captured a French flag and on the same day, the regimental band lost all its instruments at Remenoville. During the Battle of the Somme at Péronne in late September 1914, it was ordered from there to Herbécourt to cover the left flank of the 3rd Infantry Division in the west. It was then engaged for three weeks at Maricourt. On 30 October 1914, the regiment was ready at Comines to advance on Ypres. On the evening of the 30th, he reached Hollebeke with a gain of about 6 km. Until November 10, 1914, he remained 2 km from the town of St Eloi due to the increasing resistance of the English and French and the lack of ammunition.
