Important Louis XV style gilt bronze cartel clock signed "Henry Dasson 1886" 19th century. The white enamelled dial signed Henry Dasson in Paris indicates the hours in Roman numerals and the minutes in Arabic numerals, the bezel is decorated with a gilt bronze leafy shell. The dial is topped with a delicately chiseled putto brandishing a flaming torch, it rests on an openwork crosspiece base revealing a red evening. Sides decorated with violin glass richly chiseled with foliage and a shell in the lower part. Openwork lower part delicately chiseled with a female mask in the center. It rests on four arched leafy feet. Original movement striking the hours and half hours working with its key. Original mercury gilding of good quality in very good condition, cleaned by our workshop. Sold with a wooden base covered with old red velvet. DASSON HENRY 1825-1896 Cabinetmaker and bronze artist, established at 106 Rue Vieille-du-temple in Paris, Henry Dasson executed sumptuous copies of royal furniture from the 18th century and some creations of similar inspiration. His furniture and art objects were decorated with the most beautiful bronzes, gilded with mercury. Henry Dasson, bought in 1871, the workshop of the famous Parisian cabinetmaker Charles Winckelsen after his death. He participated brilliantly in the various Universal Exhibitions, such as that of 1878 in Paris, where he was particularly noticed by the jury by exhibiting a copy of the large desk of Louis XV, admired for its great delicacy. In 1889, he exhibited during the Universal Exhibition, a Louis XVI style table, made entirely of bronze and considered a masterpiece of chiseling. Dasson received a grand prize from the members of the jury. His great fame suffered virtually no competition. He finally ceased practicing in 1894.
