Italian painting from the first half of the 19th century. Oil on panel artwork of remarkable pictorial quality depicting a mythological scene of great pleasure. We find the iconographic prototype of the Chariot of Aurora that Guido Reni frescoed in 1614 for the ceiling of the central hall of the Casino adjacent to the Palazzo Pallavicini-Rospigliosi, commissioned by Cardinal Scipione Borghese. Apollo drives the golden chariot of the sun and brings the light of the new day to earth. Aurora precedes the sun's race and chases away the darkness of the night while a winged putto, twilight, raises a torch. Young girls, the Hours, dance around the sun in a triumph of light on a gold background. Scenographic contemporary frame in wood and gilded plaster, with some missing parts (see photo). Painting that presents small losses of color, overall in good state of conservation. Painting part of a pair, see photo and ask for the price of the pair of paintings if still available. Internal size H 35 x W 78 cm.
