"Head Of Young Dionysus, (in Rome Bacchus) Sculpture In Solid Terracotta."
This sculpture, based on a Roman work, is inspired by the Hellenistic model of the Horti Lamiani (the Gardens of Lamia in Rome). All these sculptures can be found in the Capitoline Museum in Rome. It is a portrait of a young Dionysus. His face, very expressive, sketches a smile and is surrounded by two large bunches of grapes, held by a headband. Above, a few more grapes and vine leaves, on very curly hair. It rests on a "shower foot" base, bearing an oval seal in the paste on the back. We can just read: "terre cotte artistiche". Beautiful Italian work from the mid-20th century.
