Emile GALLE (1846-1904), Important vase in smoked transparent glass, circa 1884, with a scalloped neck, columnar body resting on a gadrooned heel. Decoration covering the shaft with floral motifs, symbolizing autumn in polychrome hard enamels, gold and silver alternating thistles and flowers. Signed E.Gallé Nancy at the tip, under the base. Private collection. In perfect condition. Dimensions: h.45 cm x diameter. 20 cm. The vase we are presenting bears the signature "E.GALLE Nancy" corresponding to its production from 1877 to 1884. History: Emile Gallé born in Nancy on May 4, 1846 and died in the same city on September 23, 1904 is a French industrialist, master glassmaker, cabinetmaker and ceramist, belonging to the movements of the Nancy school and Art Nouveau. He is the founder and first president of the Nancy school in 1901. A child of art and commerce, he is one of the most important and prominent figures of the applied arts of his time and one of the pioneers of Art Nouveau. He is also a precursor in genetics and evolution concerning the plant world, his work, unknown to the general public, is nevertheless of great relevance since it precedes that of Gregor Mendel and announces the main lines. On the door of his workshop in Nancy, one could read this motto: "My root is deep in the woods". The full quote is the following: "Our roots are deep in the woods, among the mosses, around the springs". Object: The vase that we are presenting is of exceptional quality and is among the very rare objects of his production.
