"The Young Tahitian With The Tiare Flower "
Charming painting representing a young Tahitian, or a teenager from the Indian Ocean, made in the 50s signed Debeauvais. It is plausible to give this painting to Yvonne Vaulpre Debauvais, considering that she traveled frequently in her youth in the Indian Ocean, and many distant lands. Received first at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, she was then awarded the Grand Prix de la peinture orientaliste. However, her career took a different turn, because she became a renowned illustrator of luxury books, but in a style close to medieval miniaturists. Her pictorial works are therefore rare. I have therefore not found a point of comparison. The quality of the painting is sufficient and the charm of the subject, as well as its rarity is undeniable. Very good original condition, framed at the time soberly. A Montparnasse frame would be welcome. The dimensions that follow are those of the painting without the frame.
