Born in 1909 in Paris, André Hambourg is a figurative painter, painter of the Navy and French resistance fighter. Lithographer, draftsman, and decorator, he travels a lot and brings back from his stays many preparatory drawings to illustrate works, notably on Normandy, Provence, North Africa (Abd-el-Tif prize). In 1933 he won the French West Africa prize. Mobilized and demobilized in August 1940, he remained in Casablanca, then in Oran in 1942. He collaborated in particular on the production of articles and drawings in several newspapers (Bulletin des Armées de la République, La Dépêche de Paris...). Appointed war correspondent in 1945, he joined the 1st Army in Alsace. He was notably on a mission in August 1945 to paint the Berchtesgaden Eagle's Nest, for the American army). He received the medal of official painter of the Navy in 1952. The painter finally divided his life between the Normandy coast and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence where he set up his studio in 1972. He died in 1999. He held numerous exhibitions throughout the world (Paris, Bordeaux, Casablanca, Prague, The Hague, Oran, Algiers, Bourges, Palm Beach, New York...).
