"Collection Of 38 Gallic Coins – Gossip – Numismatics"
Collection of 38 Gallic gossips Several peoples represented, Remi, Senones, Sequani... Various diameters, approximately 20mm per piece. Gallic period between 150 and 20 BCE. The potin, a type of currency linked to the late La Tène culture, probably appeared from the 2nd century BCE in regions populated by Gauls. This Celtic coinage is found from present-day Belgium to Auvergne, via Brittany, Germany and Switzerland. The dating of the potins is complex, because they present few epigraphic signs and are characterized more by stylized figures. In general, the potins are cast rather than struck, and composed of an alloy of copper, tin and lead, the latter being able to represent up to 30% of the alloy. Ex collection Émile Sable
