"Grenadine Silk Shawl With Embroidered Floral Stripes - France Circa 1860"
Circa 1860 France Square shawl kerchief in Grenadine silk that has retained its rigid finish, probably made in Lyon or Saint-Etienne under the Second French Empire. Black silk woven with double twists (which defines grenadine silk). Decorated with floral stripes on a black background, brocaded with purple and yellow on a black satin background. Fringes on all four sides. Note a repair on one cm and a few rare tiny needle holes (7 to 8), which do not affect the stability of this shawl (see the last photo). Wearable today. Good condition of color and conservation. Dimensions: 116 cm x 116 cm
