"Pot Spoon, Rat Tail, Silver Plated Metal, Louis XIV"
Exceptional silver-plated brass pot spoon, rat tail model, very cut spatula, Louis XIV period. With the large casts of Louis XIV, a large part of the civil goldwork and the silver furniture of Versailles were melted down. To replace these objects, we turned to less noble materials including bronze, brass, copper, pewter ... Bronze or brass was silver plated to make goldsmith objects. We have here a beautiful example of this art, a so-called pot spoon (37.9 cm) in brass (or soft bronze) formerly silver plated. The rat tail model can be dated to the 17th century. Length 37.9 cm. Condition, very good, the spoon has been re-silvered and is ready to be used. The spoon is very wide. Very rare model.
