Portrait of Marie-Anne Caroline Pia of Savoy (1803-1884), Princess of Sardinia and then by her marriage to Ferdinand I of Austria, Empress Consort of Austria
Watercolour on paper
Around 1830
H. 23 x W. 18 cm
The Empress is depicted seated in an outfit fashionable in the Romantic era: a white muslin dress with balloon sleeves and a feathered hat, completed by a yellow shawl embroidered with cashmere patterns. In a rectangular gilt bronze frame, with an easel foot on the back.
This large miniature is a preparatory version in watercolour for the portrait of the Empress Consort of Austria executed by the same artist (oil on canvas) and part of a private Viennese collection. This collection also contains a first sketch painted in watercolour, less finished than ours but signed by Ender, unlike ours.
