Serinette – 19th Century Salon Organ

A magnificent serinette dating from the 19th century, this instrument combines refinement and mechanical ingenuity. More than a simple decorative object, it bears witness to an elegant art of living and a time when mechanical music occupied a central place in bourgeois living rooms.

Instrument features:
This living room serinette is contained in an elegant wooden box, typical of 19th century craftsmanship. The mechanism is operated by a crank, which sets in motion a wooden cylinder lined with metal pins. This cylinder is designed to play several melodies, each selectable by a system of notches, characteristic of this collector's instrument.
The bellows, positioned under the cylinder, is in working order but lacks flow, still ensuring a slight flow of air towards the tin pipes. These still produce sound, plan for servicing.

Dimensions:
                       Width: 26.5 cm
                       Height: 14.5 cm
                       Depth: 20 cm

A historical testimony:
Serinettes, originally designed to teach simple tunes to songbirds, quickly became popular objects among fans of mechanical music. This model, suitable for 19th century living rooms, is both functional and ornamental, with simple and delicate finishes that highlight the beauty of its era.

Detailed technical description:

Box: Waxed Walnut wood in perfect condition.
Cylinder: Made of wood, with metal pins to play several melodies.
Bellows: Functional (but lack of flow/pressure to clean/restore), with pressure relief valve.
Pipes: Made of tin, producing melodious sounds.
Mechanism: Operated by crank, with selection of tunes using a notched pin.

General condition:
The instrument is in working order, good conservation. The mechanism works, and the sound quality remains to be revised, provide cleaning, normal restoration given its time.

An exceptional piece for collectors:
This serinette is ideal for fans of mechanical music or collectors of historical objects. It embodies both technical innovation and the aesthetic taste of the 19th century. Its waxed wood finish makes it a true work of art.
