"Henry Moret - Watercolor - Pont-aven School"
Charming watercolor by Henry MORET, representing two Breton women, a rare theme in his work, made up almost entirely of landscapes, a unique framing even in the present case.

BIOGRAPHY : Henry Moret exhibited for the first time at the Salon in 1880. After completing his military service in Lorient, he settled in Pouldu in 1881, sending paintings to the Salon des Artistes Français each year and presenting Breton subjects in 1881, 1882, 1883 and 1886. In 1888, he painted in Pont-Aven the acquaintance of Paul Gauguin with whom he became familiar, forming with Charles Laval, Emile Bernard and Ernest Ponthier de Chamaillard, a band apart at the Gloanec inn where the group was pejoratively treated as "impressionists" by the other artists.
In 1889, he joined Gauguin, Charles Filiger, Armand Seguin and Meyer de Haan in Pouldu at the Marie Henry inn but did not contribute to the decoration of the premises.
In 1890, he still stayed at Pouldu and met Maxime Maufra; it is the beginning of a great friendship that will last their entire lives. In 1895, he entered into a relationship with Durand-Ruel.
During her collaboration with him, Moret produced over 600 paintings, many of which were exhibited in Paris and New York. He also exhibited seven of his Breton paintings at the Salon des Indépendants.
An exhibition was entirely dedicated to him in 1898. In 1896, he moved to Doëlan after a year spent in Groix. In 1903, he stayed in Châteaulin with his friends Chamaillard and Seguin.
In 1912, he traveled the Channel coasts.
He died the following year, in 1913.
