Son of the ceramicist Camille Nélaton, Etienne Moreau-Nélaton, painter, great collector and art historian, began his activity as a ceramicist in 1897, the year he joined the group "l'Art dans Tout". His works were exhibited during his lifetime at the shows organized by the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, alternative to the more academic French Artists' salons.
A work representative of the sobriety sought by the artist, who favored simple and useful works, contrary to a heavy ornamental art nouveau register, which distinguished him in the eyes of the critic Roger Marx (cf. "Roger Marx, a critic alongside Gallé, Monet, Rodin, Gauguin ...", Ville de Nancy, 2006).
Glaze similar to one of the vases present in Musée d'Orsay and decor to a sugar bowl from the collections of the Musée des Beaux-Arts of the city of Reims.
