Lucien Gauthier arrived in Tahiti in 1904, taking up a position as a photographer left vacant by the departure of Mrs. Hoare from the island.
He would devote the next seventeen years to immortalizing the idyllic landscapes and local beauties.
Our photograph shows a young Tahitian woman "going to the bath", lost in lush vegetation.
Vintage silver print, titled in the margin and signed with the photographer's initials at the corner. A damp photographer's stamp on the back.
Good general condition: paper folds at the corners and small staple holes in the margins.
