Gilt Bronze Fireplace Trim, Brittany – 1930

This magnificent mantelpiece, dating from 1930, is signed by a Breton clockmaker, more precisely from Rennes. It consists of a gilded bronze cartel richly sculpted with volutes, foliage and plant elements. The round enamel dial, graduated to the hours in Roman numerals, is decorated with a country decor representing a house on the edge of a watercourse. Two similar scenes frame the dial, adding to the elegance of the whole. The cartel rests on a small openwork tray, also chiseled with friezes and motifs, creating a perfect visual harmony. This central piece is accompanied by two matching candelabra, each with four light arms, including a central one. The chalices and bobeches are meticulously crafted, while the shaft and base of each candlestick are enameled with decorations similar to those of the cartel.
