A soldier, identified as Mohamed Ben Atabi, belonging to the Spahis corps, is depicted in profile, facing left. The man places his sabre on his shoulder and looks into the distance.
The uniform is rendered with precision. The subject is named and located above the painter's signature, lower right.
The work probably dates from the beginning of the 20th century, before the First World War. Indeed, Mr. Ben Atabi is identified as a soldier of the French forces in Algeria between 1911 and 1914.
The work is in excellent condition, without foxing. It is presented under glass, in a sober modern metal frame.
Note: this work is a companion piece to another also presented in our gallery. Please contact us if you wish to acquire both.
