"Composition Of A Farmyard In Gilded Bronze Signed E Arson From The 19th Century "
Terribly proud and majestic, the rooster watches over and dominates his hen and chicks in a bucolic setting accompanied by a basket, which may be supposed to contain matches to form a pyrogen. It is signed Arson 1822-1895 and could be dated to around 1877, the date on which this group "Rooster and Hen of Prairies" was presented at the "Salon", that is to say the "Official Salon" for paintings and sculptures from 1648 to 1880 and which was quickly nicknamed simply the "Salon". Arson is an animal sculptor with a predilection for birds and especially roosters, which is not in doubt when seeing this superb group.
