This Venetian medicine jar, known as a chevrette, is made of majolica with a blue monochrome decoration on a blue background known as ‘A Berettino’. It is ovoid in shape on a pedestal and has a circular pouring spout and a double-handled ribbed handle. The body is punctuated with a cartouche reading ‘S D SVGO D LIMO’ - a reference to the name of the contents.
The chevrettes were prized by apothecaries and pharmacies, which kept syrups or oils in them.
