"Napoleon III Period Fireplace Trim, Circa 1870"
Important chimney set, composed of a clock and two 3-light candelabra. The clock in patinated and gilded bronze depicts Cupid supporting a drape that reveals a dial placed on a fluted truncated column. He points to his attributes, a torch and a quiver, supported by a flowery cloud. The beautifully enameled dial is signed by F. Berthoud Paris. The whole rests on a rectangular base in griotte marble, highlighted in the upper part by a double frieze in gilded bronze with flower and interlacing motifs, and in the lower part by a frieze of alternating spandrels and acanthus. The patinated and gilded bronze candelabra depict two putti holding 3 fleur-de-lis ending with 3 lights.
